Noble Elementary Volunteer Committee Descriptions

Noble Elementary has lots of great volunteers that help make our school a “Great Place to Learn.” Please contact Manju Ramachandran at manjerade@yahoo.com  if you would like to lead or participate in any of these activities.


Committees for One-Time Events

Back to School Luncheon
This is a social affair that provides lunch for teachers as they get their classroom ready for the first day of school. It is a great opportunity to become better acquainted with the staff. We accept all donations for salads and sandwiches!
Jobs:  food server, drink server, set up, clean up, dessert preparation.
Availability: August 19 from 11 to 2 pm.

Berryessa 5K Walk/Run
This is a community wide event where the goal is to get everyone outside walking. The event will begin at the Berryessa Community Center.
Jobs: Selling sponsorship to businesses, signing up racers, packaging T-shirts for distribution, setting up vendor booths and water stations, coordination of road closures, Photography, and Marketing. Need volunteers to photocopy and drop of marketing materials.
Availability: A few evening meetings in September and early morning to noon on October 9.

Red Ribbon Week                                                                                  
This event is Co-sponsored with the Berryessa School District. The purpose is to help children say “NO” to Drugs. The Chairperson is provided with all of the materials by the PTA. The committee’s job is to disseminate all of the materials and hold a kick off assembly.
Jobs: Volunteers to disseminate the materials.
Availability: During the week of October 24th during the day. Volunteers are also needed to hang posters.

Halloween Fall Festival                                                                       
This is a fun family event where the community comes together to have fun! Food booths, game booths, face painting, a pumpkin patch, a crafts area and more are set up outside on the grassy areas. There is also music, raffles and prizes to be won.
Jobs: Craft makers & Buyers, Set-Up, Clean Up, Volunteers to staff the craft booths. Volunteers needed to run the games. Volunteers needed to pick up pumpkins and set up the pumpkin patch. Volunteers needed for face painting, crazy hair, and to set up the food tables.
Availability: Friday, October 28 in the evening and before if helping to set-up.


Ice Cream Social (Open House Night)                                      
This is an event for Moms, Dads, Granddads, Siblings, and significant others to get involved by serving ice cream. This is a very popular social event that everyone enjoys.
Jobs:  Set-up, Serving ice cream & toppings, Clean up.
Availability:  Night of the event

Giving Tree
The Holiday Wish Drive is a way to directly touch a child’s life. We work with many Bay Area Social Service agencies that supply us with the names and wishes of children they serve year round. A wish card is printed for each child, detailing their age, gender, first name, and their wish for a holiday gift.
Jobs: A few volunteers needed to set up Wish Tree, purchase gifts, advertise, wrap presents and deliver gifts to families.
Availability:  Late November to Mid-December occasionally and on the Day of event

Talent Show
Put on the biggest Talent Show at Noble. Coordinate auditions, kid’s acts, practices, and rehearsals for the big show.                             
Jobs: Volunteers needed to supervise rehearsals, set up program, coach kids, and manage the stage. Need parents to sell concessions, take pictures, and coordinate music/microphones.
Availability:  4 Thursdays in January after school and on day of event, February 2.

Parents Night Out                                                                                
Noble Families are offered Supervised Child Care so they can go out and celebrate Valentine’s Day without the kids!
Jobs: craft makers, storytellers, concessions, game players, and managing cash box
Availability: February 10 in the evening

Spelling Bee                                                                                       
Coordinate a Spelling Bee for our students according to the Scripps Spelling Bee guidelines. Register on website for supplies.
Jobs:  Arrange Word Lists and Distribute, Judges for the event
Availability: February 28 during school

Walk-A-Thon                                                                                         
This is a major fundraiser at Noble. The money raised from this event helps fund our PTA Assemblies and academic programs. Children collect money from their sponsors for each lap they walk.
Jobs: Chairperson, lap counters, water dispensers, set-up, cleanup, volunteers to make name tags and certificates, money counters, otter pop servers, set-up & clean up.
Availability: Planning meetings if you are part of the committee or just the day of the event, April 12

Field Day:                                                                                            
This is our big fun event for the kids where they play games outside, have a relay race, and get wet!
Jobs: Chairperson, water dispensers, set-up, cleanup, volunteers to make name tags and certificates, game coordinators, judges,  otter pop servers, set-up & clean up.
Availability: Planning meetings if you are part of the committee or just the day of the event. Usually held in June.

Spring Carnival                                                           
This is a fun family event where the goal is to bring the community together and raise some money for the school. Food Booths, game booths, music and more are set up outside on the grassy areas. There are also raffles and prizes to be won.
Jobs:, Set-Up, Clean Up, Volunteers to staff the craft booths. Volunteers needed to run the games. Volunteers needed to set up the food tables.
Availability:  Friday, May 25 in the evening and before if helping to set-up.

T-shirt Sales                                                                                        
This committee promotes school spirit through the sale of sweatshirts and T-shirts. Duties run through the month of October. This is a wonderful committee for working parents to get involved.
Jobs:  Sort and tally orders, data entry, bag and distribute orders once they arrive.
Availability: After school and evening hours.

Book Faire                                                                      
Each year we have two book fairs. The money raised by these events benefit the library and other PTA programs.
Jobs: Help set-up the book faire, sign-up to sell books at different times, help customers, work the cash registers, and help take down the book-faire.
Availability: The week of the event.

Committees with Year Long Assignments

All Purpose Help                                                                     
Members of this committee help with one-time events during school hours. These events include, but are not limited to vision testing, hearing testing, Picture Day, and student elections.
Jobs:  Volunteers to bring students and classrooms to the appropriate site for testing, voting, & pictures.

Project Cornerstone
Volunteers are needed read books to children in the classroom and coordinate the monthly Project Cornerstone events. Learn more by joining <insert link to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nobleabc/
Jobs:  Review materials, send out monthly newsletter to parents, and coordinate volunteers
Availability: During School Hours per Teachers Request.

Wednesday Envelopes News Assembly                                    Ongoing through June
Volunteers are needed to collate and assemble stacks of information on Wednesday Tuesdays for the students to take home. Photo coping help needed as well.

Fundraiser Nights (single person job)
Volunteers are needed to contact area restaurants and businesses to organize a fundraiser night at their business to benefit Noble Elementary.
Jobs:  Contact businesses, organize dates, distribute flyers, collect profits, and submit to treasurer.

Hospitality
This committee’s main function is to head our “Staff Appreciation Week” in May by providing a luncheon and coordinating other efforts for the students and families to show their appreciation to the staff. 

Library                                                                                                            
Volunteers will work with our Librarian to shelve library books, review tapes and filmstrips, catalogue books and reference materials, read books to classrooms etc. Availability: School hours

Safety Patrol: Morning Drop Off
Fifth and fourth graders will be trained to help younger children walk from their cars to their classrooms. The purpose of this committee is to help with the morning traffic problems and to ensure the safety of all of our students.
Jobs:  Train fifth and fourth grade students to work as valets in the morning, schedule valets, assist young valets

TerraCycle:
Volunteers are needed to sort recyclables and pack them in boxes for shipment.
Availability: Recess and Lunch time, special family events, after school.

Room Parent                                                                                                               
Volunteers are needed to assist teachers in the classroom with such activities as coordinating field trips, organizing classroom parties, helping with art projects, assisting with learning centers etc. There will be one lead room parent in each classroom that will coordinate projects with the other room parents for that classroom.

School Office Helpers
We need volunteers to work in the office one morning a week for a couple of hours to perform copying duties for the office and the teachers.

Webmaster
This may be a one or two person position. The Webmaster is responsible for keeping the Noble PTA website up to date and accurate.
